Heidi is a 52-episode Japanese anime series from 1974, produced by Zuiyo Eizo and broadcast on Fuji TV. Directed by Isao Takahata, with Hayao Miyazaki handling the layout, it is an adaptation of Johanna Spyri’s novels and was a huge success.
When you think of Heidi, these images immediately spring to mind. The reverse is also true; look at a remote chalet in the Swiss mountains and you might just see Heidi running through the grass, barefoot of course!
With this first figurine from the world of Heidi, we wanted to capture the atmosphere of the series’ early episodes. Those in which Heidi discovers life in the mountains alongside Grandfather (or ‘the Alpine Uncle’, as he is nicknamed in the village). Making a stool or cheese will be experienced by little Heidi as magical moments.
It is in the first episode, ‘The Mountain’, that Heidi meets Blanchette.
The design of this figurine is loosely inspired by the artwork on the cover of the Japanese 33rpm vinyl LP of the series’ soundtrack.
